Storylines
Arrival at Capeside

Jack meets Joey.

Jack and his younger sister, Andie arrived in Capeside when their father moved to Providence. The two of them had to look after their mentally ill mother, Andrea while holding up a full time job and school work. Jack was hired sometime before school started back up by Bessie Potter to work at the Ice House as a waiter. He was characterized at first as clumsy however, in a cute way. Joey and Jack bonded and the two became good friends over the weeks, mainly over their love about art.

Jack slowly started to become more talkative and became more outgoing as the series progressed than when he first came to Capeside.
Dating Joey Potter

In Season 2, Jack grows closer to Joey, which causes Dawson to become jealous. Dawson ends up punching Jack in the face at a school dance because Dawson overheard Jack and Joey talking about a kiss they shared during the full moon. After this, Joey distances herself a bit from Jack, but Jack eventually asks her on a picnic date, and they share another kiss.

Coming out of the Closet

In season 2 episode 14 "To Be Or Not To Be..." Pacey and Jack's english assignment was to write a poem, at the start of the episode Jack told Pacey he will do it before bed. By english class Pacey makes a comment to Jack and Jack responds with laughter causing Mr. Peterson to make Jack stand up and read his poem out loud to the class, Jack began to refuse saying he thought the poems were to only be read by him. Eventually he began to read it out loud ......... "Today. Today was a day. The world got smaller, darker. I grew more afraid. Not of what I am, but of what I could be. I loosen my collar to take a breath. My eyes fade. And I see... Him. The image of perfection. His frame strong, his lips smooth. And I keep thinking, What am I so afraid of? I wish I could escape the pain, but these thoughts invade my head. Bound to my memory, they're like shackles of guilt. Oh, God, please set me free. Free from the pain and this guilt So that I may face Tomorrow."
While reading aloud the class realized what the poem was about, causing them to laugh and giggle in shock, ashamed and embarrassed Jack ran out of the class room in tears he didn't even managed to finish the poem. Pacey went to see if he was okay but Mr. Peterson told him to sit down angering Pacey deeply, throughout the rest of the day people were mocking him at home Andie refused to acknowledge what the poem was about only saying that people don't get Jacks humor and that he shouldn't have done it, angering Pacey even more. At work Joey didn't want to ask him but after some words from a jealous dawson she asked him and he denied being gay.
The following morning Mr. Peterson asked Jack if he was alright and when he said yes Mr. Peterson then told him he to finish his poem, causing Pacey to interject and start an argument with the teacher when Pacey went to walk out Mr. Peterson said walking out is like spitting on the face of education causing Pacey to turn around and spit on Mr. Peterson and say "No sir that is spitting on the face of education". After this Jack had to face up to it he broke up with Joey telling her he needed to figure himself out and explained to Andie that he doesnt know if hes gay or not but when he does she will be the first one to know.

Fraternity House

Jack was welcomed into a fraternity house and he didn't see it as a house full of hot guys he saw it as men who could be his friends. He told them he was gay because he wanted to see how they would react since frats don't have the best record of accepting gay guys. They told him they knew and that it was one of the reason's they wanted him to join because they needed to diversify their image to look good. They reassured him though that while they definitely wanted him because he was gay they chose him over other gay guys because they thought he seemed like a guy they could be friends with.
Jack enjoyed himself for the first couple of months until one of the member got drunk and shared a moment with Jack essentially revealing he was gay but couldn't accept himself yet. Soon afterwards he told the others that Jack kissed him. Jack didn't even bother trying to deny it because it was clear the other guys weren't going to believe him. Jack couldn't take feeling like the guys weren't there for him and moved out, but not before giving a speech about how he loved it there and he thought that they were friends but apparently he was wrong.
Later on they found out the guy's secret and went to get Jack back however he refused saying he was heartbroken to leave and can't forgive them for not trusting him but he would love to still come to the parties and hang out some time.
